Criminal justice for minors is a system of justice specifically tailored for underage persons (minors) who have come into conflict with the law. Within such system, young offenders are dealt with in a special manner that is appropriate for their age and level of development or maturity.
Youth justice is based on the premise that public protection is best ensured when the justice system is not retributive but instead teaches young people the consequences of violating the law and focuses on rehabilitating young offenders and preventing future criminal behavior.
